Travel to Dehradun by Rail

Dehradun Railway Station comes under the Northern Railway Network and it is the last station on the northern railway track. Dehradun Railway Station is connected to most of the major towns in the country such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Lucknow, Kolkata, Ahmadabad, Allahabad and so on. Traveling by road, either by bus or car, is the cheapest way to get to the city and since Dehradun is surrounded by immense beauty, traveling there by road is one of the most enjoyable experiences ever. There are plenty of rest stops in between that provide delicious food and drinks. Many Luxury Volvo and Deluxe buses are readily available from Delhi to Dehradun.

Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation offers many deluxe buses that run to and fro from Delhi Bus Stand at Gandhi Road. Moreover, there are many deluxe and semi-deluxe buses that run from Dehradun to other hill stations like Musoorie and Shimla. Another way of traveling to Dehradun is by hiring a private car or cab from Delhi, which is an easy journey of just 4 hours. Other major cities that are easily accessible to Dehradun by car are Haridwar (54 kms), Agra (382 kms), Kedarnath (270 kms), Nainital (297 kms) and Shimla (221 kms).

The local bus stand in Dehradun is situated at the Clock Tower, which is just 10 minutes walk from Dehradun Railway Station. The bus service in Dehradun is operated by Uttarakhand Roadways that operates within the entire city and covers all parts of Dehradun. You can also travel by hiring taxis through the taxi stand located at Railway Station and City Bus Stand. If you are good at bargaining, you can hire unmetered Auto Rickshaws from any part of the city. You might have to negotiate for the fair as they often quote high rates.

However, above all, the best way to get around the city is by walking. It is the cheapest and the greatest way of exploring the city as you get to experience the entire charm of the city at your own leisure and pace. Moreover, it does not take more than half and hour to walk around Dehradun.
