Cuisine of Dehradun

Dehradun, the capital city of Uttarakhand is a lively city bustling with tourists almost all the year round. The city offers a wind range of cuisines right from the very basic dishes that originate from the culture of the city itself to the very contemporary international dishes that can easily be gorged upon in any of the very famous restaurants in the city.

If you are traveling to a place, your trip would not be complete without enjoying the local flavors. The city is very famous for its lip smacking local cuisine. The people of the city are use milk and its products as a major ingredient in their food. While these dishes are included in the regular cuisine of the people of Dehradun sweet dishes such as Arsa, Jhangora ki Kheer and Bal Mithai are relished as desserts.

These restaurants offer delicious local cuisine and other palatable international dishes that will definitely tantalize your taste buds. There are umpteen eateries and restaurants and most of these food joints offer excellent food preparation.

Local food of a city can be enjoyed only at the eateries located in the streets at the local places. If you happen to be in the city and are looking to try some specialties of the city then don’t forget to hit places such as Garhi Cantt where there are some of the best food joints that offer to satisfy your craving for delicious hot momos that are definitely not hot on your pocket. Food joints at Bus stand is yet another place where you can enjoy Thukpa  (a syrup based local dish) along with steaming hot momos.

 If words such as Aloo tikki, Chaat Papdi, Dahi Bhalle tickles your tongue then there is no other place like Paltan Bazar to opt for in the city. There has been a Chaat Wali street located just near to the Paltan Bazar. This place has several good eateries where you can relish so many chaat varieties.

While exploring the city, when you go down the Rajpur road in the main market you will find a plethora of eateries located at this place. Don’t forget to check out the famous shop of ‘Sardar Ji ke Pakode’. This pakora shop is owned by a Sikh family that is managing the legacy of providing hot, steaming and delicious pakoras since generations.

A meal sans sweets is not complete, you would definitely agree with me. Don’t you? So all those who are blessed with an extra sweet tooth must not forget to bump into ‘Ellora’, the popular bakery shop located on Rajpura Road in Dehradun. This shop also offers burgers, Lassi and sandwiches.

The tranquil beauty of high lofty mountains, pleasant weather, warm people and delectable cuisine, you will bring back a ton of sweet memories with you that will linger for the lifetime. It would be apt to say that you will take back a little of Dehradun with you.
