Himanya-Saras Mela-2017
India is one country where people get to enjoy and experience wide varieties of cultures, festivals and fairs. Indian festivals and fairs are as varied in origin as they are in numbers. In India it is very difficult to separate fairs and festivals as both are held during a religious occasion.
Talking about fairs or mela, Saras Mela is one mela that is currently being held in Uttarakhand’s capital city, Dehradun. The mela is a 10 day mela and is held every year. The mela had kickstarted on 7th October 2017 and will go on till 17th October 2017.
Saras Mela was inaugurated by the CM of Uttarakhand, Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat. After the inauguration of the mela he also took a stroll to see what the stalls and pavilions were all about. After having a look at some of the stalls at the mela he said, the Mela would promote local products while boosting self- employment.
Attractions Of Saras Mela
The mela has a fair number of stalls and Pavilions that showcases a mixture of things like handicrafts, pottery, decorative showpieces, furnitures etc. The stalls have been put up by different self-help groups, self-employment groups and handicraftsman from 18 states.
The pavilions in the mela showcases Khadi clothes that are made and stitched at various mountainous regions. The pavilions consists of differents places like, Mussoorie Pavilion, Badrinath Pavilion, Mansarover Pavilion etc. Each pavilion showcases its own famous artifacts like handicrafts, clothes, etc. Apart from this many states like Rajasthan, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana etc. are also being represented.
The mela also has different variety of clothes stalls, food stalls, Bags stalls, Agarbathi stalls, flower stalls etc. It has everything that one would like to see or shop from a mela. Saras Mela every time brings something new in every sphere and also lets the self-help groups promote their talent and creativity. This mela gives great exposure to local products as well as self-employment groups.
How to Reach
If you’re going from Delhi to attend the mela it will take you about 6 h 23 min (247.8 km) via Saharanpur - Delhi Rd. The location of the mela can be easily configured on the map.
